Meet the Team

Amy is the owner of Schoenen Pool & Spa. She grew up in the business and only left Morganton during her college years. Amy is a worshiper of the outdoors and wishes she had more time to take in the glory that nature provides. Her husband Richard is also a native of Morganton and together they have three children, Raleigh, Judge, and Elizabeth. She is also passionate about homelessness and serves with The House of Refuge, a men’s homeless shelter. You will often find Amy taking in donations for the shelter of money, clothing, blankets, and food right at the front counter of Schoenen Pools. She knows that no matter your age, race, sex, species, or background you deserve to be loved and cared for.

Meet Chris, born in Caldwell Co. and has lived in Burke Co. for as long as he can remember. If it involves pools, Chris can handle it! He is completely cross-trained and can assist with everything from pool construction and service to our office accounting. He is often found on jobs repairing equipment, opening/closing pools, and much more. As a huge animal lover, he loves to hang out with customers’ pets and our store cat PH. Being a history buff, Chris has a Bachelor's from UNCA. His weekends are spent playing trivia with friends, going to comedy shows, and seeing new movies.

Meet David, originally from Florida, but has called the Burke Co. mountains home for years. David has been repairing hot tubs nearly all his life and holds multiple certifications. If he is not fixing a hot tub, he is installing a new pool liner, plumbing, or solving a pool mystery. While not at work, David enjoys fishing in the ocean and getting into projects at home. David is married and has two grown children.

Meet Don, born and raised in Miami but has lived in Burke Co. for the last couple years. Having a degree in electronic repair from Colorado. Don uses his technical background on the job. You can normally find him working on pool robots at the workbench, out repairing or servicing hot tubs, or replacing pool pumps. When not on the clock, Don and his wife like to go bowling, fishing, or camping.

Meet David, born in Atlanta but has called Morganton home since he was 14. David is the king of water testing! For years he has been using his knowledge of chemistry to make pools crystal clear and ready for swimming. A graduate of Appalachian State in Art, David’s creativity can be seen all over the store. When he isn’t working, David spends time in nature and plays drums in a local band. He loves pets and has a rescue cat named “Tally”.

Meet Dave, after purchasing a swimming pool and hot tub from Schoenen Pool & Spa. Dave just couldn’t get enough of us, so he came to work! Originally from Maryland, Dave has lived in Morganton for 30 years and counting. In the store, Dave can be found testing water samples, running the register, and assisting customers with any questions or concerns. With a long career in pharmaceuticals and a biology degree from NC State Dave has a wide array of knowledge and lots of experience with customer service. When he isn’t working he enjoys swimming, watching sports of all kinds, and working in the yard and playing with his two adorable golden retrievers.

Meet Miguel, he has lived throughout NC for years but now calls western NC home. With a landscaping and food service background, hard work is in Miguel’s DNA. Miguel is out in the field, as he mostly helps install pool liners. Outside of work, Miguel loves spending time with family, grilling, and playing pool and cards.

Meet Judge, born and raised here in Morganton. As Judge is Amy’s youngest son, he has been around pools his whole life. In the summers, Judge tests water samples, measures pool liners, assists customers, and more. While you may see his picture on the wall as a little one, today Judge is a student at UNC-Chapel Hill. In his spare time, Judge likes to play guitar, be out in nature, play disc golf, and hang out with friends.

Meet Braxton, proud to call Morganton home for his whole life. Braxton has worked for a few summers here at Schoenen Pools. He can normally be seen running around on jobs with Chris. Braxton also helps with some of the marketing work, as he is pursuing a digital marketing degree from Appalachian State. When he isn’t working or studying, Braxton enjoys watching sports, playing disc golf, and spending time with friends and family.

Meet Alex, born here in Burke Co. and has called Morganton home his whole life. Alex is Amy’s right-hand man during the summer. He deals with keeping the store stocked and clean, testing water samples, and keeping Amy’s caffeine buzz going. If you give us a call, there is a good chance Alex will be the one to answer. Currently at UNCW, Alex is pursuing a business administration degree and hanging by the ocean. When he isn’t working or studying, Alex enjoys hanging out with friends, golfing, and building with Lego.

PH is the amazing Schoenen Pool & Spa house cat. She came to the team in 2016 and made her way into everyone’s heart. She is very friendly but dislikes the sound of loud trucks. She is cautiously curious about the dogs that come to visit the team at Schoenen Pool. She can often be found during working hours asleep in her favorite spots or drinking water directly from the faucet. She invites hugs and rub-downs!
